A DEVICE AND A METHOD FOR SWITCHING

A device and a method for rapidly disconnecting or connecting objects in an electric power plant from/to an electric power network (3) or any other equipment included in the electric power plant (1) are based on the use of a switching device (4) in a line between the object (1) and the network equipment (3), and a control unit (7) for controlling the switching device. The latter comprises a switching element (5) sensitive to radiation and arranged to form an electrically highly conducting current path when subjected to radiation but to adopt an electrically insulating state upon absence of such radiation. The device comprises a radiation source (8) for the switching element. The control unit (7) is arranged to control the switching element (5) by controlling the radiation of the radiation source (8) towards the switching element.
