<p>An electric powered multiple impact fastener driving tool (1) comprising a handle portion (3), a main body portion (4), a guide block (5), a magazine (6), and a guide and biasing assembly (160) mounted in the guide block (82) and affixed to the magazine (6) enabling shifting of the magazine (6) within the guide block (82) between an extended fastener starting position and a retracted fastener driven position. The main body portion (4) contains an impact assembly (10) comprising a motor (8) driven cam wheel (64) with a single drop-off (66), a cam follower roller (77) mounted on a reciprocable hammer (41), a compression spring (58) surmounting and abutting the hammer (41), and a fastener driver (79). For each rotation of the cam wheel (64), the cam follower roll (77) lifts the hammer (41), compressing the spring (58) and storing energy therein. At the cam wheel drop-off (66), the cam follower wheel (77) and hammer (41) drop under the influence of the spring (58) and the hammer (41) impacts the driver (79) which imparts a blow to the fastener. The cam follower wheel (77) does not contact the cam wheel (64) immediately after drop-off. Further cam wheel (64) rotation will result in contact, greatly reducing wear of the parts. This sequence is repeated until the fastener is driven and the tool (1) thereafter shuts off to conserve energy. At least one switch (103, 104) and cooperating actuator (196, 7, 206) are provided to vary the number of blows per driving cycle and to control the depth of drive.</p> |
