A braking and auxiliary power apparatus of an internal combustion engine, wherein electric energy is converted bidirectionally between a polyphase circuit of a polyphase squirrel-cage induction machine (2) connected to a rotating shaft of an internal combustion engine (1) and a DC circuit of storage means and is used as braking and auxiliary power. The storage means comprises a capacitor circuit (20), which may be connected to a low-voltage storage battery (22) by a bidirectional DC/DC convector.
