The invention relates to a cable elevator comprising a driving mechanism which interacts with a cable guided by deflection rollers in order to lift and lower an elevator car and a counterweight which move inside an elevator shaft. According to the invention, deflection wheels, driving wheels and guiding elements are contained in preassembled installation units. Said installation units are quickly and easily assembled at the place of utilization. In addition, the inventive elevator driving mechanism lifts and/or lowers an elevator car and a counterweight in the elevator shaft by means of at least one bend slackening device. Said device is guided by an arrangement of deflection rollers. The driving mechanism is integrated as a bend slackening device of the deflecting element inside the arrangement comprised of deflection rollers.
