FIELD: petrochemistry and hydrogenation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst including platinum on aluminum carrier is distinguished by containing iridium with following component contents: platinum 0.01-0.05 wt %, iridium 0.01-0.05 wt %, and aluminum, the balance. Catalyst preparation procedure includes immersing, for 90-150 min, preliminarily oxidized aluminum metal carrier into aqueous solution, containing 0.05-0.01 mole/g potassium hydroxide and ammonia platinum complex [Pt(NH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>4</SB>]Cl<SB>2</SB>, placed in closed space at 170-210 C. Novelty consists in that concentration of mentioned platinum-ammonia complex ranges from <EMI ID=0.405 HE=6 WI=12 TI=CHI> to <EMI ID=0.406 HE=6 WI=12 TI=CHI> M and iridium complex [Ir(NH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>5</SB>Cl]Cl<SB>2</SB> is added in concentration <EMI ID=0.407 HE=6 WI=27 TI=CHI> M, while carrier is immersed into solution at ratio of loose volume of granulated aluminum to solution volume from 1: 15 to 1:11.
