WIDE COHERENT BAND LIGHT SOURCE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide coherent band light source with which coherent light having an extremely wide wavelength band can be generated in a compact and simple configuration. SOLUTION: A light pulse generated by a light pulse source 1 is amplified to peak strength where the light soliton of order '1' is formed at the incident end of a heat insulated pulse compressor 3 by an optical amplifier 2. Then, the light soliton is adiabatically compressed by the heat insulated pulse compressor 3, the compressed light soliton is appropriately amplified by an optical amplifier 2', afterwards, its spectrum width is expanded by a white light generator 4 and this light is emitted as the white light of high coherency and a wide band.
