An information processing system that operates input data and outputs the resultant data according to a processing procedure, includes a plurality of operation units (7-1 to 7-x) for executing the operation with an operation precision of 2 bits (m: a natural number) according to the processing procedure, and a plurality of cascade-connection terminals for connecting the operation units in cascade. When the maximum operation precision required for the operation is 2 bits (n is a natural number and fixed), x operation units are so connected in cascade as to satisfy x>/=2/2 (x is a natural number). When the operation precision required for the operation is 2 bits (n1/=2/2 (x1 is a natural number and variable). Thus the information processing system for executing the operation with a desired precision can be easily realized in a hardware manner. Besides, the operation precision can be easily enhanced in the hardware manner.
