The microscope (1) for ophthalmologic operations is moved up and down with a small motor (21) positioned inside a holding element (4). A rotation reducing mechanism, working with a wormgear (22) attached to the drive shaft (28) of the motor (21), transforms the rotation into a linear motion in combination with a second wormgear (24). A spring (40) is tensioned when the element (10) is lowered building up an elastic energy potential which is released when the element (10) is lifted.
