An arrangement (12) for identifying components (14), which is applied e.g. to the key pad (10) of a self service apparatus, comprises an optical sensor (36) which picks up light from a light source. The key pad surrounding housing (1) is covered by a light collecting plate (16) made of a transparent material. The light impacting on part of the collection plate is deflected into the plate. The sensor is located on the plate surface.
