Air conditioning compressor drive with viscous-fluid clutch

A viscous-fluid clutch has a chamber (4) for the working fluid and a reservoir (9) within a housing (1). The chamber has a running unit (3), either the chamber or the running unit being powered. The chamber and the reservoir are so linked that fluid from one may be exchanged with fluid in the other under the control of a pump (14) integrated within the housing. The torque is transmitted to the housing (1) or running unit by the fluid within the chamber (4). The pump (14) is driven by the relative rotation of two components one of which (8) is secured to the housing, while the second (7) is concentric with the running unit shaft (5) and is braked by an electromagnet (11).
