PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain, in a high yield and in an industrially advantageous way, amines useful as intermediates, for medicines and agrochemicals by treating a specific substituted amides with a reducing agent composed of a specific halide and a metal borohydride. SOLUTION: The amines of formula II [e.g. (R)-N-(α-methyl-3- methyoxybenzyl)-3-(2-chlorophenyl)-1-propylamine] is obtained by treating substituted amides of formula I [R<1> to R<3> are each H, a (substituted) 1-20C alkyl or the like] [e.g. (R)-N-(α-methyl-3-methoxybenzyl)-3-(2-chlorophenyl) propionamide] with a reducing agent composed of a compound of the formula R<4> X (R<4> is H or a 1-3C alkyl; X is a halogen) and a metal borohydride (pref. e.g. composed of sodium borohydride and methyl iodide) in the presence (absence) of an organic solvent such as tetrahydrofuran, pref. at a temp. of 50-55 deg.C for 1-4 h.
