The invention relates to a device which is preferably designed for carrying out medical punctures. Said device comprises a probe element which can be introduced especially into biological tissue such as the human body. The invention also relates to a corresponding method. The invention is characterised by a signal converter which is provided in the probe element area. Said converter acts as a target guide and enables a signal leading to said target to be produced. Unlike conventional techniques, the inventive device with a signal converter on the probe element enables direct local observation of the surrounding tissue areas close to the tip of the probe.
