A device for sealing incisions in the body of a patient wherein the device inclu des a bioabsorbable sealing member (20, 60 76) having an elongate shaft member (24, 62, 78) and an elastomeric and flexible balloon member (22, 48, 68, 70, 86, 90). The device may also include a preformed or injectable collagenous material (92) asso ciated therewith to homostatically seal the incision in the body of the patient. The shaft member may include one or more lumens (26, 64, 66, 80, 82, 84) extending therethrough in flow communication with one or more balloon members thereon to provide a relativ ely simple device which effectively seals an incision in the body of a patient.
