SILICON NITRIDE-BORON NITRIDE COMPOSITE SINTERED COMPACT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silicon nitride-boron nitride composite sintered compact having improved frictional characteristics without deteriorating mechanical strength. SOLUTION: The silicon nitride-boron nitride composite sintered compact consists of a continuous phase 3 of silicon nitride having 0.2 μm average grain size, a dispersed phase 4 of boron nitride(h-BN) having <=20 μm particle diameter and a compd. phase 5 which exists at the boundaries between the continuous phase 3 and the dispersed phase 4 and contains at least iron(Fe) and nickel(Ni). A two-layered plating film of nickel and iron is previously formed on boron nitride(h-BN) as starting material.
