PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate such inconvenience that a dot character is judged to be a defective character due to a minute difference, although it can be read and judged visually, and to perform the judgement accurately at the same time when the dot character is measured by a measuring means and is compared with reference data to judge whether it is good or not. SOLUTION: When a dot character is read by an image reading device and this read pattern is compared with the registered pattern to judge whether it is good or not after a car body number is stamped by dots on a vehicle body of a motor-bicycle, etc., an uncertain region slightly larger than a measured error is provided in a boundary part for judging whether it is good or not. If a dot character is judged to be in this uncertain region, rejudgement is done by a predetermined number of times by a plurality of character patterns registered in advance. If it is still judged to be in the uncertain region, it is judged by visual confirmation. |
