PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture data processor of high compression efficiency, which changes the number of the processing hierarchies of frequency resolution by means of the type of a picture in a separated area. SOLUTION: When a first wavelet conversion part executes wavelet conversion and an image area separation part separates an image area, a character area A and a pattern area B are separated. They are resolved into coefficients in separation. A coefficient LL1 equivalent to the pattern area B is extracted and '0' data is buried in it. The coefficient LL1 of extracted pattern data is frequency-resolved and it is frequency-resolved into four hierarchies LL4 here. The pattern area B is quantized by discarding the high frequency components LH2, HL2 and HH2 of the second hierarchy and the character area A is not quantized without discarding anything in the respective coefficients generated to four hierarchies LL4 in a first host computer. Then, the pattern area B becomes a deteriorated picture in a restored picture but the character area A is completely restored. |
