PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To normally operate a master unit, to connect the master unit to a line, and to perform speech or communication by the master unit by setting a speech mode to a secrecy mode, when it is recognized that a slave unit does not exist within the range of third person speech. SOLUTION: A system controlling part 2 of a facsimile machine 1 sets a speech mode to a 'secrecy mode'. It monitors whether a master unit speech request or a slave unit speech request exists. When there is a request for the slave unit speech, an inter-master unit-slave unit distance recognizing part 12 recognizes the distance between the master unit and the slave unit. Next, it is decided whether the slave unit exists within the range of third person speech centering on the master unit, and when it is recognized that the slave unit exists within the third person speech range, the speech mode is set to a third person speech mode. Meanwhile, when it does not exist within the third person speech range, the third person speech is rejected and secrecy mode is maintained. In this case, the slave unit emits a tone which shown the rejection of the third person speech and notifies a user of the slave unit that the master unit currently is in communication with the secrecy mode.
