To precisely control an electrically controlled solenoid valve, the resistance of the solenoid coil is measured either indirectly through measuring the tempera ture of the coil or directly by placing a known resistance in series with the solenoid or ap plying a known current source to the solenoid. Based on the measured coil resistance, the voltage applied to the coil is adjusted so that a desired current through the coil is ac hieved.
