<p>A method for preparing partially or completely nitrided aluminium granules that are shelf-stable and coated with a passivating layer of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), wherein aluminium powder mixed with a suitable amount of powdered CaCO3 is reacted with nitrogen under continuous stirring by heating the reaction medium to a suitable temperature.</p>
