PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the differentiation and proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells and/or hematopoietic stem precursor cells differentiated from the hematopoietic stem cells which are useful for blood cell transplantation and genetic treatments capable of being replaced by bone marrow transplantation or cord blood transplantation, by reinforcing the expression of a differentiation- inhibiting gene in the hematopoietic stem cells of a mammalian and allowing a blood cell-stimulating factor to act on the hematopoietic stem cells. SOLUTION: This method for controlling the differentiation and proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells comprises reinforcing the expression of a differentiation-inhibiting gene (e.g. HES-1 gene, HES-3 gene, HES-gene) in the hematopoietic stem cells (e.g. obtained from cord blood, fetal liver, marrow, fetal marrow or peripheral blood) of a mammalian and further allowing a blood cell-stimulating factor (e.g. cytokine, interleukin, a proliferation-stimulating factor, interferon or kemokine) to act on the hematopoietic stem cells and/or the hematopoietic stem precursor cells, thereby allowing the hematopoietic stem cells and/or the hematopoietic stem precursor cells to survive and proliferate in the differentiation-inhibited state. |
