PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently decrease the amt. of the water in ore mud by diluting the ore mud with water to a specific concn., injecting an aq. soln. contg. an org. flocculating agent thereto to attain sufficient contact, then forming an upper layer stream and a lower layer stream and discriminating the lower layer stream from the upper layer stream. SOLUTION: The ore mud is diluted with the water to a solid concn. of <150 g/l, more preferably <80 g/l. The aq. soln. prepd. by diluting the org. flocculating agent consisting essentially of a copolymer of a weight waverage mol.wt. of 2×10 to 3×10 deg. derived from slightly anionic acrylic acid to <1 g/l, more preferably <0.5 g/l is added into the dilute ore mud. The amt. of the aq. soln. to be injected is specified to a ratio of 50 to 1,000 g per ton of the dry matter in the ore mud. The injection soln. is brought into contact with the dilute ore mud by sufficiently spending time, by which the upper layer stream contg. the solids below 100 mg/l and the lower layer stream contg. the solids of 450 to 300 l/g are formed. The lower layer stream is discriminated from the upper layer stream.
