PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain a new compound useful for synthesizing omeprazole in a high yield through a low toxic intermediate. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I (L is N-pyrrolidino or N-morpholino). The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II with pyrrolidine or morpholine. Omeprazole of subsequently V is obtained from the compound of formula I by reacting the compound of formula I with oxalyl chloride or bromide with a 1-6C alkanol, reacting the obtained compound of formula III (R is a 1-6C alkyl) with a hydride-imparting reducing agent, reacting the obtained compound of formula IV with ammonia, reacting the obtained compound with a chlorinating agent or brominating agent, reacting the obtained compound (X is chlorine or bromine) with 5-methoxy-2- mercaptobenzimidazole, reacting the obtained compound with a methoxide source and further reacting the product with an oxidizing agent.
