TOBACCO WRAPPING PAPER CONTAINING FLAVOR FOR IMPROVING SIDE STREAM ODOR OF TOBACCO AND CIGARETTE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tobacco wrapping paper and a cigarette capable of masking disagreeable odor of side stream in smoking by applying an aqueous solution of a specific lactone and a salt of a hydroxy acid corresponding to the lactone to the tobacco wrapping paper. SOLUTION: The objective tobacco wrapping paper carrying a flavor effective for improving the side stream odor to tobacco is produced by preparing an aqueous solution containing a lactone such as a >=5-memberedγ-lactone orδ-lactone, e.g.γ-undecalactone and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of a hydroxy acid corresponding to the lactone and applying the aqueous solution to a tobacco wrapping paper to attach 0.1-1,000 mg/m<2> each, preferably 0.5-100 mg/m<2> each of the lactone and the corresponding hydroxy acid salt to the wrapping paper.
