FIELD: agriculture, ecology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agents used for potato protection from Colorado potato beetles (Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say) and can be used in biological methods of control over Colorado potato beetles population and the development of ecologically pure methods of struggle against this insects. Invention proposes the use of caryophyllene, or (1R,4E,9S)-4,11,11-trimethyl-8-methylene-bicyclo[7.2.0.]undec-4-ene, identified as a component of volatile organic substances excreted by Colorado potato beetles and potato leaves in traps for Colorado potato beetles attracting. The use of caryophyllene as an attractant in traps before potato seedlings and after crop harvest gives a possibility to develop an ecologically harmless method of struggle against Colorado potato beetles.
