Methods and apparatus for completing wells in unconsolidated subterranean zones

An unconsolidated subterranean zone (12) penetrated by a wellbore (10) is completed by placing a slotted liner (20) having an internal sand screen (35) disposed therein in the zone, isolating the slotted liner (20) and the wellbore (10) in the zone (12) and injecting particulate material into the annuli between the sand screen and the slotted liner an the slotted liner and the wellbore to thereby form packs of particulate material therein to prevent the migration of fines and sand with produced fluids.
