A dye-receiving element for receiving a thermally transferred ionic dye has support carrying an image-receiving layer contg. (a) an elastomeric binder with a Tg less than 25[deg]C and (b) a polymeric mordant for the ionic dye. Also claimed is (A) a thermal dye transfer assembly comprising (i) a dye-donor element which has a support carrying a dye layer contg. an ionic dye dispersed in a polymeric binder and which is superposed with (ii) a receiving element as above, and (B) forming an image by imagewise heating the donor element to transfer a dye image to the receiver (ii).
