The invention relates to a brake device for the wheels of a vehicle, especially a vehicle trailer, comprising a stationary calliper (5) with axially displaceable brake linings (6-9) guided therein. At least one brake disk (3, 4) is arranged between said brake linings. Said brake disk(s) is/are rotationally fixed in relation to the wheels but axially displaceable. When the wheel hub (2) is detached and the brake linings are removed, the brake disk(s) can be repositioned in the calliper, from a vertical installation position to a diagonal disassembly position. Each disk brake adopts a tilted positions and can then be removed from the calliper. They are installed by carrying out the same process in reverse.
