In a steam boiler comprising steam-generating tubes B and downcomers A which surround and define a combustion chamber, are interconnected at their upper and lower ends by headers C, C, and are also connected to a steam collector or separator, for example of the kind.described in Specification 723,101, by conduits 2, 4 respectively, some at least of the downcomers A are of larger cross - sectional area than the steam-generating tubes B. The tubes B and downcomers A may be in line, Figs. 1 and 2, spaced or in contact or, alternatively, the tubes B, Figs. 5 and 6, are disposed in front of the downcomers A with the upper and lower headers C, C thereof interconnected by conduits 6. In other constructions, for example as shown in Fig. 12, some of the downcomers A may be disposed outside the insulated wall M of the boiler. The steam-generating tubes B, Fig. 8, may be fitted with coaxial gas tubes as shown by dotted lines.</p> |
