<p>The optically writing space-light modulation element (1) is in close contact with the fibre plate (2) on a cathode-ray tube (3), and consists of a laminate and two transparent electrodes (15) sandwiching the laminate. The laminate comprises a nematic, cholesteric, or smectic liq crystal (22), a liq. crystal composite (18), a dielectric multilayer mirror (17) reflecting light almost totally, an insulating light-absorbing layer (170) absorbing light having slightly transmitted the mirror, and a photoconductive layer (16) in this order. The liq. crystal composite (18) is so made that the same liq. crystal as the liq. crystal is dispersed and confined in a resin matrix (23) having a refractive index equal to any one of the refractive index of ordinary or extraordinary ray of the liq. crystal or the refractive index of the liq. crystal randomly oriented, or that the resin matrix is dispersed and confined in the liq. crystal. The projection light (13) is projected on the screen (14) using a white light source (4) for display and a projection optical system (6,7,8,8',9,6',6'',10). A bright display image is displayed since neither a polarising plate nor an analysing plate is used. An analog image can be easily displayed. A moving image can be displayed by using a Schlieren optical system.</p> |
