PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electrophotographic photoreceptor excellent in wear resistance and excellent also in moisture and corona discharge resistances by forming a surface protective coat having a silicon-base compsn. contg. nitrogen and carbon as the outermost layer. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photoreceptor has an electrically conductive substrate 1, an adhesion enhancing film 2 for enhancing the adhesive strength between the substrate 1 and an upper amorphous film 7 and a photosensitive layer 3. A surface protective coat 6 as the outermost layer is formed as an amorphous SiNC (a-SiNC) film having a silicon-base compsn. contg. nitrogen and carbon and protects the photosensitive layer 3 which is a photoconductive film from the effects of moisture, NOx, oxidation and/or external physical and mechanical forces. The surface protective coat 6, the inner adhesion enhancing film 2 and the photosensitive layer 3 constitute the amorphous film 7. The hardness of the surface protective coat 6 is equal to that of an a-SiN film, the contact angleθof the coat 6 with pure water in the air is equal to that of an a-SiC film and the objective photoreceptor excellent in wear, corona discharge and moisture resistances is obtd.
