PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a preform for a distributed refractive index plastic optical fiber capable of increasing the refractive index difference between the central part and peripheral part of a core part and removing a clad mode which is the cause for degradation in transmission characteristics without increasing the concn. of a non-polymeric compd. included in the core part. SOLUTION: The preform for the distributed refractive index plastic optical fiber is produced by providing the surface of the inside wall of a cylindrical vessel of a polymer to constitute the clad with a polymer layer having a refractive index lower than the refractive index of the pure polymer constituting the core part, packing a monomer for forming the core part into the hollow part of the cylindrical vessel having the low-refractive index layer and forming the core part by polymerizing the monomer for forming the core part while dissolving the low-refractive index layer. |
