The appliance has a light source (20) with a filter (22) which only passes light components which can excite riboflavin to fluoresce. Its transmissivity in the wave length band of 425nm to 465nm is not less than 50%. The endoscope has a fluorescent light filter (35) with the same transmissivity in the band range of 490nm to 560nm. Outside these ranges their transmissivity does not exceed 0.1%
