The apparatus includes electronic devices (EE) arranged in containers (B) in or on an elongate object (LG). An energy supply receiver (EVE) supplies the electronic devices, each device (EE) having a transmitter/receiver part (SET1) and a processor/memory unit (PSE). A stationary data correspondence unit (DKE) can be positioned above a container in the ground for data exchange. An energy supply transmitter (EVS), a transmitter/receiver part (SET2) and a computer (C) are arranged in the data correspondence unit (DKE). Tuned induction coils may also be arranged in the energy supply unit and in the energy supply receiver.
