Gearshift with park setting

A multi ratio transmission has a gearshift which moves in an extended gate system to include a setting in which two gear ratios are selected simultaneously. This has the effect of locking the transmission and acting as a parking brake. The parking setting is at the beginning of the gate tracks. A control system prevents selection of the park setting unless both input and output speeds of the power train are at zero and if the clutch is open, and if the engine is switched off. The switching control can activate servo drives to select the gear ratios.
