A work train (1) for replacing old sleepers (12) of a track (5) with new sleepers (30) consists of a plurality of loading wagons (3) for storing old and new sleepers (12,30), arranged one following another in the longitudinal direction of the train and designed for mobility on a track, a device (10) for pulling out old sleepers and a crane (18) designed for mobility in the longitudinal direction of the train and having a sleeper gripper (19) for picking up and transporting the sleepers. Provided at one end of the work train (1) is a sleeper transporting device (32) with a sleeper gripper (36) which is vertically adjustable by means of drives (34) for depositing the new sleepers (30) stored on the loading wagons (3) on the track (5).
