PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To write data tracks with a high line recording density. SOLUTION: A magnetic head has 1st and 2nd pole tip layers 26 and 30 which are separated from each other by a nonmagnetic gap layer 42. Both the pole tip layers 26 and 30 are made of high magnetic moment material. The left side walls 26A and 30A of the 1st and 2nd pole tip layers 26 and 30 are matched with each other in a vertical direction. In the same way, the right side walls 26A and 30A of the 1st and 2nd pole tip layers 26 and 30 are matched with each other in a vertical direction. With this constitution, a magnetic head which enables practically the reduction of a side fringe flux from one of the pole tip layers to the other and by which boundaries of tracks can be satisfactorily defined when data are written can be obtained. As the pole tip layers 26 and 30 which are made of high magnetic moment material can provide high coercive forces, it is less probable that the pole tip layers 26 and 30 operate in magnetic saturation states. The magnetic head can be manufactured as a reverse-type head or a nonreverse-type head and can write data in a magnetic medium with a high saturation coercive force at a high data transfer speed. |
