摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To brighten both of the display using external light and the display using the light from a light source. SOLUTION: A light transmission plate 20 for respectively emitting incident light from the front and the incident light from an end surface to the rear surface to be made incident on a liquid crystal cell 10, and emitting emission light from the liquid crystal cell 10 made incident on the rear surface to the front surface is arranged between the liquid crystal cell 10 and a front side polarizing plate 18a, and a light source 21 is arranged opposite to the end surface of this light transmission plate 20. Together with that, a diffractive member 24 diffracting the incident light transmitting through the liquid crystal cell 10 in the direction near to the vertical direction to be made incident on a reflection plate 19, and diffracting the light reflected by this reflection plate 19 in the direction nearer to the vertical direction to be made incident on the liquid crystal cell 10 is arranged between the liquid crystal cell 10 and the reflection plate 19 of a high reflectance arranged behind a rear side polarizing plate, and a reflection type display is performed even when the external light is used, and even when the light from the light source is used.
