A receiver (2) with a series-connected evaluating device (10) is provided for a received spheric signal in order to protect an electrical consumer against surges in a supply network (16) caused by thunderstorms, especially for protection against lightning. A switching device (12, 19) serves to disconnect the consumer from the supply network (16) according to a control signal (S) generated by the evaluating device (10).
