PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a translucent reflection type liquid crystal device capable of making bright reflection display and high contrast transmission display compatible. SOLUTION: In this translucent reflection type liquid crystal device, a liquid crystal panel formed by holding a liquid crystal composition 104 between a pair of substrates 103, 105 which are provided with at least a polarizing plate 101, transparent electrodes 111, 112 on opposing inner surfaces and on which dot groups are formed in matrix, a reflection polarizer 107 as a reflection polarizing means for reflecting a prescribed polarization component of incident light and transmitting the light compont other than the prescribed polarization component through and light sources 109, 110, are provided and arranged in this order. At this time, the axes of the polarizing plate 101 and the reflection polarizer 107 are arranged matched with the liquid crystal panel so that the light modulation impossible and not light shielded area of the liquid crystal panel becomes a bright display at a reflection display time, and becomes a dark display at a transmission display time. |
