The image screen display (11,12) is positioned in the line of sight of the automobile driver and controlled by electronic processing of information provided by sensors detecting the environment immediately around the vehicle. The display mode of the image screen display is switched in dependence on a vehicle operating parameter, e.g. the velocity, or the selected gear ratio.
