<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a lighter weight with higher strength and to improve durability by forming a metallic layer between a surface treated layer and a reinforcing fiber layer formed on the surface of the face plate of a club head including the face plate comprising a fiber reinforced metal formed by reinforcing a metal with reinforcing fibers. SOLUTION: The head 1 of this golf club is constituted to a hollow shape and is formed by integral molding of the metallic material by casting or discretely casting shell members and integrally molding the head by welding these members. The face plate 2 formed of the reinforcing fiber layer 2a which is formed of the fiber reinforced metal obtd. by reinforcing the metal with the reinforcing fibers and is more specifically oriented with the reinforcing fibers in the vertical direction of the head 1 and the metallic layer 2b which is laminated so as to hold the reinforcing fiber layer 2a is fixed into the recess 1b formed in the face part 1a of this head 1. Further, the surface treated layer 2f having excellent wear resistance or high hardness is formed on the surface of the metal on the side which is the ball hitting surface of the face plate 2.</p> |
