PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a wax having an excellent sliding performance applicable to various sliding conditions by including a paraffin with a specific m.p. range, and a resin component which is a copolymer or a hydrogenated compd. of a multiple no. of monovinyl arom. hydrocarbons, or a mixture thereof. SOLUTION: The subject wax comprises a paraffin having 50-80 deg.C m.p. consisting of one or more aliph. hydrocarbons, and a resin component having 120-220 deg.C softening point composed of a copolymer or a hydrogenated compd. of more than one monovinyl arom. hydrocarbon, or a mixture thereof, with a wt. ratio of the monovinyl arom. hydrocarbon resin to paraffin being 1/99-20/80. If necessary, a lubricant, a static electricity preventing agent, an antioxidant, a colorant, etc., can be blended. The monovinyl arom. resin is obtd. by copolymerizing more than one arom. hydrocarbon having a polymerizable double bond at theirα,β-positions such as styrene,α-methyl styrene, o-vinyltoluene, etc. It has pref. a (wt. average mol.wt.)/(no. average mol.wt.) (Mw/Mn) value of 1.1-3.5.
