PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a push-out applicator by which a coating material is uniformly and smoothly applied to a support body such as a polyester base film having a wide range of thickness. SOLUTION: In an applying method by which coating liquid is continuously pushed out of a slot 4 to apply it to a support body without supporting the continuously traveling support body on the other side of the coating surface thereof, a lip 2 surface on the upstream side and a lip 3 surface on the downstream side have each a curved surface, and if thickness of the support body is denoted as (y)μm, the radius of curvature of the curved surface of the lip 2 surface on the upstream side of the applying device as r1 mm, and the radius of curvature of the curved surface of the lip 3 surface on the downstream side of the applying device as r2 mm, the radii of curvature of the curved surfaces of the lip 2 surface on the upstream side and the lip 3 surface of the downstream side are set so as to satisfy the following tow formulas: (3/50)×y<=r1 <=(3/50)×y+30, and (3/50)×y<=r2 <=(3/50)×y+30.
