Detecting plant materials in food by DNA amplification

Detection of components of foods by DNA amplification using new primer pairs, and identification of selected DNA fragments by restriction analysis. The method comprises: (i) isolating total DNA from the sample; (ii) adding a pair of primers complementary to plant DNA for replication by polymerase chain reaction (PCR); (iii) fragmenting amplicons with restriction endonucleases; (iv) electrophoretic separation of the fragments; and (v) identifying type(s) of plants present from the pattern of fragments, by comparison with patterns of known identity. An Independent claim is included for the primer pair: 5'-ATAAGTTCAGTACCTTCACGAGCAAG (RBCL-C) 5'-ATGTCACCACAAACAGAAACTAAAGC (RBCL-N).
