In a process and assembly to kill pathogens in a hospital water supply (1), the water runs through a limited section of pipe (8, 9, 10, 14) in which it is heated (3) to above 70 deg C. The heater (3) is coupled to a heat exchanger (2) through which heat is recovered and reused. Water is cooled before discharge to the users.
