The invention relates to a system for adjusting a motor vehicle gearbox having a variable ratio, in which system a theoretical speed of the vehicle engine is determined. The gear ratio is set in relation to said theoretical speed. The object of the invention is that at least one value is determined which represents or affects the driving situation and/or the driving condition, and the theoretical speed of the vehicle engine is determined in relation to said value.
