Automotive engine idle speed control

The method involves selecting a desired initial idle speed of the engine (10) based on the detected values of sensors (12) which measures engines operating parameters. A controller (16) operates the idle speed module (14) based on detected values so as to maintain engine's idle speed at desired initial speed. The controller determines the total heat generated in the engine and the engine load. Based on determined engine load, the actual heat generated for the engine is calculated. Then the idle speed is adjusted according to relative values of desired total heat generated and actual heat generated.
