Cross-linked phyllosilicates are used in catalytic compositions mainly for the hydrocracking of hydrocarbon cuts. The cross-linking distance of the phyllosilicates is at least 2.0 x 10<-9>m, preferably at least 3.3 x 10<-9>m and no more than 6.0 x 10<-9>m. The interfolial spaces contain pillar-type inclusions of oxides including silica (SiO2), alumna (Al2O3), titania (TiO2), zirconia (ZrO2), vanadium oxide (V2O5) or any combination of these. The products also include fluorine. Independent claims are also included for: (1) the preparation of the compounds; (2) catalytic systems containing the compounds; and (3) their use in hydrocarbon conversion reactions.
