The bed surface warming method uses at least one relatively spaced radiation source (5) with a main radiation component in the wavelength range below 2500 nm, directed onto the bed surface (1). The intensity of the radiation is controlled in dependence on the detected temperature of the bed surface, provided by a pyrometric sensor, compared with the required temperature for providing an intensity regulation signal in a closed regulation loop.
