PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of a read image while preventing the infiltration of light from the outside by providing a shading member on the opposed face side of a reading means for shading light infiltrated into a sheet conveyer route so as to separate it from a reading plane. SOLUTION: An original conveyer down guide 14a guides an original 6 from a separate roller 10 to a contact sensor 15. As the shading member, a shading plate 18 is provided on an original conveyer guide 14b so as to close the original conveyer route. Then, external light is prevented from being infiltrated to an end face 15b1 of sensor glass 15b on the downstream side of an original conveying direction. This shading plate 18 has width of >= the same reading width in all areas of reading width. In this case, it is preferable that the shading plate 18 is made into sheet-shaped member, and it is appropriate to use a black PET film, which does not transmit light, having the thickness of 50μm, for example. Then, the original 6 read by the contact sensor 15 is ejected outside this image reader in a direction (a)} by providing the energizing force of an auxiliary roller 17b through a paper eject roller 17a.
